Born in Bogota, Colombia, Alejandro Ronceria is a choreographer/director and film artist based in Toronto. Trained in classical ballet in Colombia, the Soviet Union, and New York, he has since danced with various companies and choreographers around the world. In Canada, Ronceria danced with the Karen Jamieson Dance Company in Vancouver before moving to Toronto to collaborate with René Highway and Raoul Trujillo. Since then he has created artistically challenging work that explores Aboriginal culture and aesthetics. His own choreography includes Ancient Rivers, Ayahuasca Dreams, and The Jaguar Project. His recent work includes co-director/choreographer for New Voices Woman and Lupi, The Great White Wolf for De-ba-je-mu-jig Theatre Group from Wikwemikong, Manitoulin Island, Ontario. Ronceria also worked with the Barro Rojo dance company in Mexico City to create the choreography Prelude to Rain. His second film, A Hunter Called Memory , premiered at the 1996 Toronto International Film Festival. Contributor to: |
