Shelley Niro and Faye HeavyShield work independently. This Banff performance was their first collaboration. Shelley is well known for her photography and films that use humour to challenge Western representations of First Nations culture. She is from the Six Nations Reserve, lives in Brantford and has exhibited her work internationally. Her latest film, Honey Moccasin, was recently released. Faye works with a variety of materials to create elegant minimalist installations that draw on personal memory. Women's clothing combined with organic fibres reflect the exchanges and conflicts between her native and Catholic up-bringing. Faye is from the Blood Reserve and currently lives in Calgary. She has exhibited her work across Canada and the U.S. Contributor to: |
