Alan Michelson was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1953. He studied at Columbia College and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He received a National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artists Fellowship in 1987 and was included in the notable We the People exhibition at Artists Space the same year. His work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum and Edge 92 in Madrid and London. He currently lives and works in New York.
