Robert Hilles lives in Calgary and Sooke, B.C., with his partner Pearl Luke. He has published numerous award-winning books of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. His book of poetry, Cantos from a Small Room (Wolsak & Wynn 1993), won the 1994 Governor General's Literary Award. A new book of poems, Higher Ground (River Books), appeared in the spring of 2001. He recently finished his second novel called A Gradual Ruin and is at work on a new novel called Shining Down Like Water.
