World Tour 2011-2012 Contest Official Rules

1. Entry and Deadline

No purchase necessary to enter or win. A purchase will not increase your chances of winning.

All online and mail entries will be accepted until October 15, 2012. Entries received after October 15, 2012, will be entered in the draw for the 2012/13 contest. Limit of one entry per person. Entries must be complete and legible to be eligible.

2. Drawings

Winners will be drawn on or about October 16, 2012, among all eligible entries received by Banff Mountain Film Festival whose decisions in all matters relating to this contest are final. Potential winners will be notified by email and/or phone, and will be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility and publicity release that must be returned and received within 14 days of the date mailed to the potential winner or an alternate winner will be selected. Answering a skill-testing question will be required. By accepting a prize, each winner agrees to the release of his or her name and/or likeness for potential publicity purposes, where permitted by law. Odds of winning are dependent upon the total number of eligible entries received.

3. PRIZE

World Expeditions is delighted to be a valued partner of the Banff Mountain Film Festival and North American Tour, and is excited to donate the following prize.

TRIP NAME: Vietnam by Bike, 15 days
COUNTRY: Vietnam

2012 approximate total RETAIL VALUE: CAD$2,390 (including airfare from Toronto, New York, Los Angeles or Miami)

This prize is being donated under the following conditions.

1. Open only to legal residents of Canada & the United States that have the age of majority in their province or state at the time of entry. (excludes residents of Puerto Rico and where prohibited by law)
2. The prize is valid on any of our schedule departures with the exception of Christmas, New Year or Easter week departures. The prize must be used by November 2013, meaning that travel must be completed by the end of that month. No extension possible. Prize is subject to availability.
3. The prize is valid on the Vietnam by Bike trip from World Expedition only. Inclusions and exclusions are as per our detailed trip notes which are available on World Expeditions Website at www.worldexpeditions.com.
4. International airfare is included from Toronto, New York, Los Angeles or Miami. Depart and return city must be the same. Flights are subject to availability at the time of booking. Blackout dates may apply. World Expeditions can arrange flight from other cities at the winners’ expenses.
5. Due to the popularity of both flights, World Expeditions recommends that the winner choose a departure date at least 6 months prior departure.
6. All unforced stopovers, airlines and airport taxes will be at the winners’ expense.
7. The winner will be required to complete World Expeditions’ booking form, which states they understand and agree to our terms and conditions. Upon signing the booking form, the winner will be bound to these terms and conditions excluding the conditions referring to payment.
8. The winners will also be required to self-complete a medical form. Their doctor must sign the medical form if the winner is over 70, or has a pre-existing medical condition. Should they fail the medical, World Expeditions reserves the right to refuse the winner(s) from participating in the Vietnam by Bike adventure.
9. Winners may extend their stay at their own cost. Extensions must be made at the time of confirming their prize.
10. The prize is not redeemable for cash.
11. World Expeditions will not cover additional costs associated to the trip including but not limited to extra flights, taxes, insurance, extra accommodation, and vaccinations and any other personal expenses. World Expeditions will not cover costs of meals that are not included in the scheduled itinerary.
12. Trip choice is non-transferable to other World Expeditions’ trips but can be transferred to another participant. To authorize the transfer, World Expeditions requires a signed agreement from the winner and all information of the new participant.
13. World Expeditions reserve the right to ask the winner to choose another departure date or another trip of similar length and value at any stage, if for any reasons World Expeditions must cancel the chosen departure.
14. As per our terms and conditions, the winners will need to purchase an all-inclusive insurance with World Expeditions. The non-refundable portion of the trip should be insured and paid to World Expeditions if the winner cancels the trip.
15. We kindly request that the winner contact us within 60 days of winning the prize to advise us of their preferred month of travel. If the winner has not contacted us in that time frame World Expeditions will assume the winner has chosen to forfeit their prize.

4. Limitation of Liability

Sponsor and judging organization are not responsible for typographical errors in any contest related materials; for late, lost, stolen, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, illegible, or postage-due mail or entries; for technical, hardware, software, or telephone failures of any kind; or for lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions that may limit or interfere with a participant’s ability to take part in the contest. Entrants agree that the Banff Mountain Festivals, its promotion partners, sponsors, related companies, agencies, respective employees, or officers shall not be liable for injury, losses, damages, or costs of any kind resulting from participation in this contest or acceptance of or use or misuse of a prize or parts thereof. By entering, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules.

2008 – 2009 ONLINE CONTEST WINNER

Meet the 2008-09 Banff mountain Festival online contest winner: Scott Mcgrath, from Edmonton, Alberta. In addition to being fans of the festival, Scott and his wife Amy are also avid fans of winter. Ice climbing, telemark skiing, and nordic skiing in the rockies are all part of their repertoire. In between snow seasons, Scott likes to climb, mountain bike, and unicycle. He also squeezes in the occasional paddling trip, when he’s not off fighting fires during the work week.

“I have attended the festival four times in Edmonton and three times in Banff. The last two years in Banff, we have used the festival as a reunion of sorts with some old university friends. Amy has been attending the festival for more than 10 years. it has become tradition in her family that Banff tickets are found yearly in Christmas stockings.”

Scott and Amy’s prize was a trip to Nepal with World expeditions during which they trekked in the Annapurnas with local guides and porters, and enjoyed a wildlife safari in Nepal’s Chitwan national Park, where they came face to face with elephants, a rhino, and a sloth bear. Scott and Amy report that a highlight of the trip was meeting the local guides and connecting with the Nepalese people.

“Trekking in the Annapurna region for eight days, we were fortunate to spend much of the time with Binod, one of our local Nepal guides. We helped him with his English, and he taught us some Nepalese,” Scott says. “Binod is one of the most caring, helping, attentive, positive, humble, and prankster people we have ever met.”
