Tim Karels

Tim Karels (Ph.D. 2000 University of Toronto) has been conducting
research in the boreal forest and alpine region of southwest Yukon
for the past 12 years. His research interests focus on
understanding the processes that limit and/or regulate natural
populations. During his graduate studies, Tim spent six years
(1993-1998) investigating the population dynamics of arctic ground
squirrels in the forests near Kluane Lake, Yukon as part of a
collaborative large-scale terrestrial experiment (The Kluane
Boreal Forest Ecosystem Project). Since then ,Tim has moved uphill
and currently conducts research on hoary marmots at a remote
alpine field camp in collaboration with David Hik at the
University of Alberta. Tim spent one year as a post-doctoral
fellow at the University of Alberta and is currently a
postdoctoral fellow in the Centre for Biodiversity Research at the
University of British Columbia continuing his research on marmot
population ecology.
