authorities in Quaternary and environmental earth sciences. He currently
Professor and Shrum Chair in Science at Simon Fraser University, and Vice
President of INQUA (International Union for Quaternary Research). His
research interests include: Quaternary stratigraphic investigations,
engineering and environmental interpretations of surficial geological
information, and natural hazard studies, most often in collaboration with
other geologists, geographers, biologists, and physicists. His research on
earthquakes, landslides, and floods has increased public and official
awareness of these hazards, and was featured in a 1997 Discovery Channel
