Fleck Fellow

Dr. Jane Hilberry, a poet and faculty member with Leadership Development, will return to The Banff Centre this summer to continue her work exploring connections between the poet’s craft and the art of leadership.

The Banff Centre recently awarded Hilberry a Paul D. Fleck Fellowship, which provides independent artistic residencies for senior, established artists working in their field. Established by the family of the late Paul D. Fleck, a former president of The Banff Centre, in honour of his memory, the fellowships enable The Banff Centre to recognize excellence.

“We're especially proud to see The Banff Centre continue to recognize the artistic talents of Leadership Development's faculty,” says Nick Nissley, executive director of Leadership Development at the Centre. “Jane's selection as a Fleck Fellow and her inquiry into the intersection of poetry and leadership is another step on our journey towards our vision to be globally recognized as the place for applied creativity and creative leadership development."

Hilberry is a poet and a professor of creative writing at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, USA. Her passion as a teacher lies in helping people to connect with their own creative energies and to recognize the specific nature of their gifts. Her work has been published in literary journals such as the Hudson Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, and the Denver Quarterly, as well as Leadership Compass at The Banff Centre. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Oberlin College and received her PhD in literature from Indiana University.

Hilberry is a valued contributor to Leadership Development’s Art of the Executive Leader program, where she helps participants in the area of personal writing to deepen their leadership skills.
